"I have a four month old 08 black Tundra and I cannot keep scratches off of it. Very thin paint. Both surface and below surface scratches and they do not buff out. I have five layers of high-quality wax on it and yet I still am getting surface scratches. I sold an 05 F250 and the paint looked perfect after nearly four years. This Toyo won't last at this rate and I am VERY disappointed in Toyota's quality in this area. Not what I expected and I'll be buying a Ford next time." |

"My 08 Tundra has paint irregularties, I can see the primer in many locations on the truck. Was told that paint thickness was within tolerances. It does scratch easy and scratches do not buff out . Toyota should m ake this right for all owners with crappy paint. This is so unlike Toyota" |

"I have a 2008 Tundra 5.7L DC SR5. I purchased this vehicle in March 2008. In the last 7-8 months of driving, I have 6 paint chips (front hood, both front fenders, and rear drivers wheel well) and one relatively large scratch on the rear passenger panel. This is on a truck with less than 11,000 miles on it and with only city/highway driving. I have not taken this truck off road at all. The paint quality is poor. Water based paints are known to be softer and easier to scratch. This is a known fact and the paint should have been made much thicker to compensate for this softness. I only wish I knew this prior to the purchase of this vehicle as Toyota never advertised this fact. They advertised it as a work truck and a tough one at that. Apparently this does not hold true for the paint." |

"Blotches:
I had noticed 2 blotches in my paint before buying my truck and got it in writing that they would take care of it (done with 'I Owe' document from the dealer showing 'buff out hood'). These are apparent under parking lot lighting and dependent on the angle you're looking at it.
Took it back last night. Picked it up tonight. Blotches are still there, despite them claiming that they had taken care of it. Since the truck was parked so close to the truck next to it, I checked down the side for dings and ended up seeing more blotches that I didn't see before. Great! I don't trust them to go back and do something with multiple body panels if they can't get the hood right, so I decided tonight that I am going to accept that I have a sh!tty paint job and not do anything more about it. I am guessing now that this is a factory issue and not a fault of the dealer. Not what I was expecting from my first Toyota." |

"My 2007 Tundra paint has developed spots on the hood, top, front fenders and bed sides where the paint appears to be flaking off or pitting. This truck only has 5500 miles on it and has only been driven locally and never on the highway. I have the red paint and I seem to see gray primer under the paint. I have also noticed that anything that touches the truck seems to leave scratches and swirls. I have never seen a paint job this poor. Between this paint problem and the V-8 engine that is clacking like a diesel I really regret this purchase. " |

"paper thin paint ....waaaaay too easy to scratch. Not happy with this situation."
The paint job on the Tundra truck is very poorly done. You can get scratches and chips that will continue to chip off. I don't know what it is with the paint but the quality and durablity is not there. "

"Have had my Tundra for about 2 months. A week of ownership I was rinsing out the bed with a hose. The hose was rubbing against the side of the bed, no big deal that I thought. The whole side of the bed is completely scratched. Just from a hose? I don't think the paint is strong enough to hold up to anything. Now when anything get's near my Tundra I stress out. That isn't right." |

"I have a 2005 Tundra in Salsa Red Pearl that has paint chips missing all over the vehicle. I took it in to the dealer while under warranty and they said that since they are chips that they won't cover it. I had to take the truck in to a dealer referred body shop to fix a spot where someone had keyed it and they looked at the paint and asked if I constantly drive behind rock trucks or something similar due to the amount of chipping. When I informed him that I do not and that it's from regular driving, he was shocked at how easily the paint chips on my truck. Something should be done to fix this problem because I definitely will not be purchasing anymore toyotas if this is the case." |

"Just weeks after buying my tundra, I started seeing scracthes everywhere. If I touched the truck in any way it scratches. I wash my truck one body panel at a time and rinse out my microfiber mit each time and make sure its clean, still it does horrible damage. All over my truck is scratched just from leaning on it... not rubbing. Ive had little bushes scracth it that never scracthed any of my other trucks. Ive got alot of scratches right down to bare metal and I have no clue how they even got there. My hood is peeling paint in alot of places from rocks... I dont ride close enough to anyone to do that bad of damage. " |

I have no kids, I work at night and garage the truck during the heat of the day, I park in areas where no one else parks, and I still have paint scratches. I wash it every week and I wax it often. I really baby that thing. No four wheeling. No tailgating. Still, I have scratches in just two months of ownership" |

"This is my first new vehicle purchase and I am for the most part very happy with my 08 Pyrite Mica Crewmax purchase. My only problem with this truck is you got it, the paint job. Don't get me wrong its a beautiful color, but man is this paint fragile. I have 408 miles on this truck and have leaned against it a few times loading and unloading items from the side and have scratches that are very noticable from brushing against the side with blue jeans. For a truck with a 44,000 MSRP, you would think it would have a better quality paint job than this, this is BS. My 98 chevy original paint is much tougher than this. Toyota is going have to do better than this if they expect a repeat purchase from me. I realize certain chemicals have been banned from the painting process in the states, but we've got to do better with todays technology this shouldn't be happening." |

"Many white swirl marks. black paint. Other black trucks I owned example ford expedition these marks would buff out no problem year after year. My 2007 tundra is only 10 months old and looks terrible. The marks wont polish out .It seems like their is not any paint on truck. Its shot already. I will have to pay for a complete paint job 7000 .00 just so I am not embarresed by my truck . My brother inlaw has a 2005 chevy silveraldo that is perfect. He laughes at me for buying toyota. My tundra is a far better truck but the paint is bad." |
